The Yunus Social Business Center also known as Yunus Center of Social Business (YCSB@UKM) under the management of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, held an academic conference with the colaboration of Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR), in conjunction with Pangkor International Development Dialogue (PIDD) 2016 at Casuarina Meru, Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. The conference involved 11 experts academics from various public and private universities throughout the country. The conference was also attended by students, and non-governmental organizations. The inaugural conference of the center brings the theme 'Building Resilience for Inclusive and Sustainable Future' by debating the latest topics such as the environment, women and youth, social businesses, economics, education, technology and innovation.

Professor Emeritus Chamhuri Siwar, for example, presented a paper on eco-tourism in Kuala Gula, Perak which was a tourist attraction from within and outside the country. The perception survey of local residents and foreign tourists has been aware that eco-tourism has had a positive impact on locals such as income generation, employment opportunities, environmental preservation and the provision of sustainable eco-tourism. However, there are adverse effects such as price increases, social problems and security and the conservation of natural resources that need to be addressed for sustainable eco-tourism development.

Professor Md Pauzi Abdullah discusses the concept of Integrated River Basin Management for flood management in the Pahang river basin. The intentional management concepts between governments, non-governmental and individuals play a role in the control of human activities that can affect the environment and and in the handling of natural flood events.

The issues discussed include the issue of sustainable banking for Islamic banks in Malaysia, safety measures, domestic waste management, e-government index development for websites, Malay micro entrepreneurs and state roles, water management problems and eco-tourism management in Langkawi and Kuala Gula.

This conference was one of the UKM joint ventures with IDR in the success of PIDD this year as well as reflecting the concern of UKMs in line with the UKM slogan to be 'The  Guardian of The Nation'. YCSB@UKM believes that the results of academic sharing in this conference will contribute to the mission of making Perak State to be success.
