Due to lock-down measures are taken to tackle the Coronavirus crisis, underprivileged low-income people have lost their means of livelihood and are facing a terrible food crisis. Grameen Shakti head office staff has taken an initiative to urgently start a Food Distribution Program to provide relief aid to these families to fulfill humanitarian responsibility. Grameen Shakti has started the Food Distribution Program in 10 districts of the country. This relief program aimed to motivate local organizations to engage in the program, and in fact many local organizations in these districts participated with dedication in Grameen Shakti’s relief program. The relief program has provided food among selected 1,000 families, with rice, lentil, potato, soybean oil, soap being distributed to each of the listed families under this program. From 3 April to 14 April 2020, Grameen Shakti has already distributed the relief to 800 of the targeted 1000 families in 8 districts including Sakhipur (Tangail), Jamalpur, Dinajpur, Kishoreganj, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Faridpur, and Nilphamari. Grameen Shakti is set to provide the rest of the relief in Netrakona and Thakurgaon districts.
Furthermore, Grameen Shakti started a new initiative to provide food for 3 months to an additional 750 underprivileged families.
Grameen Shakti is one of the main companies providing renewable energy technology in Bangladesh. Grameen Shakti has installed Solar Home Systems in approximately 18 lakh households, Improved Cook Stoves in 10 lakh households, and biogas plants in nearly 35,000 households in Bangladesh, to date.
