University of Venice Ca' Foscari, located in Venice, Italy, is one of the oldest university in the world. To continue the cycle of “Nobel Prizes in the Chair Project” at Ca 'Foscari that, on the occasion of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the University, the university brings guests of excellence to offer exceptional opportunities for students and teachers to meet. As a part of which Nobel Peace Prize winner Professor Muhammad Yunus was invited to speak at the university. Professor Muhammad Yunus was also awarded the fellowship in Economics at the University of Venice Ca' Foscari because of his very high contribution to the development of the social innovation and the creation of value thanks to an innovative management of microcredit that has institutionalized small loans for entrepreneurs who do not have access, due to a too low income, to traditional banking circuits.
Following the recognition of the fellowship, the Rector of University of Venice Ca' Foscari, Professor Michele Bugliesi, launches a Yunus Social Business Centre (YSBC) at University of Venice Ca' Foscari which increases the global number of YSBCs to 63. It also makes University of Venice Ca' Foscari the 4th YSBC in Italy. The Yunus Social Business Centre is essentially a research hub and engages the faculty and student body of the university as well as the community to incubate and establish a social business that addresses any pressing problems in region, following the principles of Professor Yunus himself. The YSBC will be a part of the global network linked with Yunus Centre in Bangladesh.
