Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in collaboration with Malaysia Yunus Social Business Network; which comprises the Yunus Social Business Center of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (YCSB @ UKM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Darul Ridzuan Institute (IDR) and Youth Trust Foundation myHarapan, held a program of of social business challenge with the theme of 'Zero Poverty to Employment Creation' on May 11, 2017 (Thursday) at Tun Abdul Razak Chancellor Hall (DECTAR), UKM. The competition involved two forms of competition namely the Social Business Model Pitching and the Social Business Poster competition.
Social business is a form of business model that is based on solving community issues through sustainable and competitive business practices. UKM Social Business Challenge is an integrated, dynamic and focused social entrepreneurial development program in the form of social entrepreneurship in which the activities are designed for the development of social business models in Malaysia. The program was under the supervision of the Malaysia Yunus Social Business Network which is designed for UKM students in particular and Malaysia in general.
The program was designed through talk / bootcamp activities, idea generation, social business model development and pitching competition. Each activity slot were aimed at achieving an increase in strategic minded entrepreneurial culture, creative-innovative thinking in decision-making and team tolerance to achieve organizational goals, objectives and targets. In addition, we believed that through this activity we can address the social problems that existed today.
This challenge was started simultaneously at the national level where nearly 4,000 UKM students were involved in the selection of social business ideas. A total of 14 best ideas were chosen to present the social business idea, while the three of the best represent UKM to the national level.
